Epc reports are mandatory in Spain since 2013, following the energy performance of buildings directive. Buildings are responsible for 40% of energy consumption in the EU, and 36% of CO2 emissions.
Improving the energy efficiency is one of the key objectives of the European directive, aiming to have all new buildings to be nearly zero energy by 2020
Different energy rates
Qualification is based on CO 2 emissions per square meter. Assigning a letter from A to G depending of the emissions emitted by the building.
A
< 3,5 KgCO2/M2
The best energy rate, nearly zero energy building
B
< 6,5 KgCO2/M2
Building with a good insulation and with renewable energy
C
< 11,1 KgCO2/M2
Good insulation with a few improvements it will reach A or B rate
D
< 17,7 KgCO2/M2
Building with a basic insulation using gas
E
< 38,2 KgCO2/M2
Building with insulation defaults
F
< 43,2 KgCO2/M2
Building whit many insulation defaults
G
>= 43,2 KgCO2/M2
Highly inefficient building, using coal or electricity to produce heat.
